I read about a DIY menstrual cup, and that sounds dangerous to me.?

I read that some people make their own menstrual cups out of pure silicone aquarium sealant. This sounds insane to me. I cannot think that allowing a liquid form of silicone air cure, would make it so they are safe to be in someone’s body. Wouldn’t chemicals leak out? Where do people get these crazy ideas from? And how are you supposed to know how thick and what shape to make the silicone in anyways? (PS: I’m NOT going to try this out)

It’s a pointless thing to do considering how cheap menstrual cups are, in actual fact I think that it is cheaper to buy a cup then to buy the silicone sealant to make your own – but some people are very much into DIY so like the idea of making their own just to try it out, making it different thicknesses to see what works.

As for safety, well once made they are going to be as safe as menstrual cups, in theory. I know for a FACT that I’ve seen this discussed somewhere with loads of details about using this silicone as means of making your own cup…but I can’t find it anywhere – I think it was less ‘it’s unsafe’ and more ‘it just won’t work’.
