How do I make my room look more like a room in a magazine?

I have a light blue dresser, a light pink desk, 2 TALL bookshelves (one white, one tan), a small wood brown bookshelf, a little purple chair and a pink with flowers fold out chair, a bed (duh!), a purple and white nightstand, a dark blue beanbag, and a little white stand with a small gray tv on it. My room is painted light purple and my bed is purple. I want to make my room look cooler and I want the color theme to be purple and brown. I don’t really like how the colors look together now. Are there any other color themes that would be cool? Like purple, brown, and green? Is that cool? I like polka dots too. I want it to be really neat and look like a bedroom in Pottery Barn Kids. If you have any cool organization things or furniture suggestions, that would be great too! Thanks

Okay, I did this with my mismatched bedroom a few weeks ago and it already looks like a mag photo.

First get organized – mag photo rooms are never cluttered and they always pick one or two things (like a vase or lamp) to focus attention on.

Then paint or stain your furniture to match. It sounds like you have a little of everything going on and even if the bed and dresser are two different styles, if you paint them to match each other, they look like a set.

The take put a light lavender or beige on the walls (you can put a darker accent wall behind your headboard to make it standout)

Frame a couple pictures or find some that match your bedding and hang them to make it all go together.

It’s a lot of work but feels more relaxing and sophisticated when you’re done.
