How to prime the pump koi pond?

one has a bottom drain that leads to the filter basket for my pump. How I can prime the pump? I have a ball valve of the pump to the filter. I close it and let the pump go, but that dosnt pull any water out. I have a 2,000 liter tank and the pump draws 4200 gph. please help allready want to finish this project. Well, I have a priming pot is the filter, but I just do not know why not pull in the water. How long should I wait to start pumping water?

I guess it's a bit late now, but buying a priming pump is always the best idea. Pondmaster pumps are magnetic drive self priming built to run 24 / 7. If the pump is a pump exrernal and must be prepared not to be a screw cap just unscrew It has a couple of gallons of water on hand to turn the pump and start pouring water into the hole once it starts just screw the lid back. Then invest in a first car and forget headache prime. My pond is 2,000 gallons, well but I use my first car submersible dredge box.
