How to cook cornbread in a Cast Iron skillet wedge over a wood fire?

We fear the bottom and burns top will not do. We do a lot of camping and would like to learn to cook cornbread in cast iron skillet that was given wedge.

Like a pancake: 1 cup cornmeal 1 cup flour 1 / 4 cup sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 egg 1 cup milk 4 tablespoons butter, melted Melt the bacon grease (or oil) in an iron skillet. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, beat egg with milk and butter. Add to dry ingredients and stir until moistened. Fry on a low fire until it begins to bubble at the top of the dough. Using a metal spatula, Carefully top with corn bread and cook until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into corn bread. Cable Corny Bread – Add 1 / 4 cup corn kernels (fresh, frozen or canned) to the mass. Cheddar Cornbread – Add 1 / 4 cup shredded cheddar cheese to the dough.
