Why are many insects attracted by light sources?

I was sitting in my dining room table studying and I heard a buzz going around my head. I looked up and saw a large bug flying in circles around our light above the table. He did about 10 full circles before finally fall into the light (the light is like a lamp light, but circular in shape with a cover, so the top is open). I asked my mother why the bug He did, and she replied: "For all the insects tend to like light." Why is that?

This is an excellent question! In fact, there has been some debate on this issue. One theory is that they are attracted by light, it is used as an aid to navigation. Instinctively head toward the light because they associate it with a less dangerous than today. In other words, they are moving toward the light as "rising." Another theory is that the eyes of insects can not easily switch between light and darkness, to stay close to the light where there is a continuous shine. If you flew away from light, then there would a time to do much of anything, it would be difficult.
