Wood Sleigh Bed, What You Need to Know

Always popular, the wood sleigh bed will always be in style. A larger than normal headboard and foot-board are standard. Headboards can be as tall as 98 in and foot-boards 68 in tall. The headboard and foot-board are connected by low wood rails giving the whole a sleigh like appearance. The side rails were used to tie off the rope mattresses that were used in the day.

European antiques have been the template for the modern wood sleigh bed. Cherry is a very popular finish in keeping with the European style. More modern beds often have a high gloss finish and modern style.

Examine your bedroom carefully to understand how a large piece of furniture like this will affect the room. The bedroom that will comfortably accommodate a queen or king bed should be rather large. Sixty inches is the normal width for the queen size and 72 inches is normal for a king size . Of course the larger size have a bigger sleeping area but they also take up more space and their higher than normal headboard and foot-board make them seem even larger. If your room is large enough a one with a tall headboard and foot-board can make an impression. If your room is small, then choose a one with shorter ends.Twins are about 39 inches wide and full ones are 54 inches wide.

The finish whether light or dark will make a major difference in a room. The tall headboards and foot-boards can dominate the room.
