Home Decor—Wood Blinds for a Natural Look

Changing the look of your home can actually be fairly easily and inexpensively accomplished simply by changing out your window dressings. Curtains, blinds, and other window apparel can really dress up your room and make it look entirely different. Best of all it is usually fairly inexpensive to do.

There are many things to consider when choosing window dressings for our home. Besides the new look you want to create, you also want to consider how your windows and their coverings effect your utility bills, heating and cooling. When you consider all of these factors, it makes sense to go with the now in-fashion natural look of wood blinds.

First of all most furniture has some wood, and you can choose wood blinds in the same tone as your furniture so that everything matches well. It is much easier to match wood tone than the color of your furniture’s upholstery. You can get them in a variety of woods including oak and cherry, and you can have them stained to match the stain on your furniture.

Wood blinds are the most expensive of the blind family, but much less expensive than good curtains. When you purchase wood blinds you are making an affordable yet lasting and valuable addition to your home decor. If you care for your wood blinds properly, you will be blessed with this natural look to your home for years to come, for about the cost that it would take to buy cheap curtains that only last a year or so.

Caring for wood blinds will depend on the type of blinds you get. If you live in humid conditions, you should not get true wood but faux wood, which is much easier to care for due to its plastic nature. They are stain resistant, do not warp when wetted, and can be dusted with a typical soft dusting cloth and some dusting spray.

Another type of wood blinds is woven blinds like bamboo. These are much less expensive and still give you the natural look. Don’t put them in kitchens or bathrooms because they are difficult to clean. Keep them out of the reach of children as well, because the thin, rounded straw-like pieces of the blinds could break off easily and create a choking hazard.
