Convertible Bunk Bed
Which is better: a 4-in-1 convertible crib or a portable crib/play yard?
We are sorta on a budget and originally planned to get a portable crib as my family lives over 3 hours away and that is not a one day trip. We recently come across the convertible cribs and I really like the fact that it goes from crib to toddler bed to full size bed. We would still have to get a portable crib to take with us, maybe even used. Our dilemma with the convertible crib is that my bf had to share a bed with his older brother when he was young and he hated it, so he’s thinking bunk beds for the future (granted we have the same sex child in the future.) What are our options?
Like it’s been said, a play yard’s mattress isn’t going to be sufficient for use on a consistent basis. They are alright for out of town trips and things like that, but they aren’t meant to be used nightly.
The convertible cribs are nice, but not *really* necessary. Compare prices on them and just a regular crib – if the prices are around the same, I would say to go ahead and get the convertible, but if you can get a regular crib for cheaper, I would suggest that.
And Pack’N'Plays are AWESOME. And I don’t think that there have been any recalls or any new safety standards set in them, so you could conceivably get one used for pretty cheap. The material is a plastic fabric, so it would be easy to clean before using.
Anyway – I don’t think I’ve really said anything that hasn’t been said already, but hopefully the fact that it’s been repeated will show you how important it is that you have first and foremost a regular crib for your baby. You will figure something out when it comes to family visits.
