How do you fight people stronger and faster than you?
How do you deal with people who hit hard and are at the same height/weight than you?
I had to forfeit a match in my 2nd ever kickboxing tournament because this guy’s punches were so frequent and powerful; even when my guard was up, the top of my head took some of the blows (my hands covered my face); I tried to counter with body punches e.g. body jabs/crosses but they weren’t strong enough to keep him away. Plus his punches were so fast and strong that I couldn’t get near enough to wrap him up.
I could’ve lasted the round but I didn’t want to get K.O’d since I had a Economics test the next day.
I’m not nimble enough to stick and move; i’m a static fighter; I feel my leg cramping/pulling at the rear if I dance about (yes I warm up/stretch before).
Is there a way I can pull a Rocky/Ali by taking shots/tiring him out? What’s the best way to do it while minimising force from him?
Sounds like several problems here. You mentioned that you are not a mobile fighter, but are static. No one cane fight effectively with any style of martial arts, sport combat, …etc. unless you are mobile. Understand also that anyone that allows an opponent to press forward, making them back up, is likely to lose a fight. Your description sounds like you either stood still and tried to deal with his punches, Or backed up while doing so. Either way you are not going to do well like that. You must make the opponent be more concerned with defending against your attacks than attacking. Fighting is similar to a foot race in one simple way. The guy running backward will lose. You should work on your mobility and attacking the attack. Once you have attacked his attack, you must keep him so busy that he can’t take control of the fight.
