How to finish unfinished wood ….?

Ok, so I am currently looking to purchase an unfinished platform bed from and a new mattress. What exactly does “unfinished” mean? Also, I would like to paint and have it ready before I get the new mattress. Would I need to apply anything to the frame, such as a sealant or something, before I painted it? Thanks.

Unfinished simply means the wood is raw. Use fine sandpaper to get it smooth (always sanding with the grain). Then paint with the appropriate primer. Once that’s dry, paint it with the paint you have selected. Done!
