Information On Buying A Flat Screen Television

When it comes to flat screen TVs you have three main choices: LCD, LED and Plasma. Whether replacing an old, worn out TV or just deciding it is time for an upgrade, it is worth it to look into the different types of flat screen televisions and decide which one is best for you. Each of these styles may look similar when they are not switched on, but the way they operate inside can have a big impact on your viewing experience.

A fluorescent lighting system is used to illuminate the screen in both LCD and Plasma style flat screen TVs. Sometimes the light produced by these tubes shines around the diodes present inside, because of this the screen has trouble producing dark black colors in the on-screen image. The dark gray coloring that results makes the picture appear fuzzy and muddled to the viewer. For some consumers this is an annoying problem.

The fluorescent lights inside LCD and Plasma TVs also are not able to produce a rich number of colors, despite the fact that the liquid crystal diodes inside are capable of producing a full spectrum. A backlit LED television on the other hand is capable of a much richer variety of color, this is where backlit LEDs have a clear advantage over other style of flat panel televisions.

LED televisions use less electricity than TVs that utilize a fluorescent lighting system, so this does make them less expensive in the long run. LED TVs have two different lighting arrangements: the aforementioned backlit method, and a set-up where the lights are placed along the edges of the screen itself. Both of these methods of lighting have their own pros and cons.

Despite using diodes in the system, edge lit LED TVs are not able to produce the same rich blacks that back lit LED TVs are capable of. Edge lit models however do tend to be thinner than back lit models, but the lights are on at all times just like the fluorescent lighting systems. Back lit LED TVs do tend to cost more, but for some consumers they are worth the higher price for the best, most crisp image available from a television set. Whatever model or style you choose what is most important is that it fits your taste, your budget and your home.
