Does a filter screen work on a flat screen TFT LCD PC Monitor or is it a Myth?

People in my office keep buying generic filter screens to put on their flat screen LCD PC monitors. Do these screen actually make any difference or are they just for CTR Monitors. Any info would be useful i.e. radiation facts and external site for reference.

LCD don’t emit radiation. They reduce the screen brightness and improve the contrast (not by much but visible). The reason why i use one: drastically reduced reflections and glare.
