Why wont my gerbils run in their exercise balls?

My 2 male gerbils…bubble and squeak…..are in to separate hamster exercise balls. When i put them in for the first time they just sat there. so i left them for a bit to get the hang of it. but they still wont run. why?

You can’t MAKE them run. They have moods and feelings and likes and dislikes just like us. Maybe she doesn’t want to run, maybe she’s tired, maybe shes scared because a big hand just picked her up and put her in a little ball. Some gerbils just don’t like exercise balls. In fact, one of my fat gerbils (LOL) hates his exercise ball, while my other one who loves to run enjoyes rolling all around the room. So basically what I’m saying, is that even though they have a small brain capacity, they have personalitites and feelings just like us and some have a preference to stay away from exercise balls.
