There is a really weird rash on my body. HELP!?
Since Christmas Eve, I’ve had this weird itchy rash thing on my body. It’susually on my legs, back, arms and chest, but it has also been on my pubic region, hands and scalp,. I know it’s not from my bed, because it happens even when I’m not at home. It’s not my fabric softener or soap, it’s not any of my shower stuff. Usually the rash appears at night, and it gets red and hot, with white lines through it. Does anyone know what it is or what I should do? Benedryl makes the itching stop mostly, but I want to know what is causing it, and how to stop it.
This may be caused either by bed bugs or scabies. Either one would still be there even when you are not at home. If it is bed bugs you might even carry some with you when you are not at home, and scabies live under your skin. From your description it is difficult to tell, but I am leaning toward scabies.

If it is either of these infestations, it is a process to get rid of it. With the bed bugs you have to disinfect your room, bed, clothing, and maybe even the house. To find out if it is bed bugs close the windows in the bedrooms, close the blinds or curtains, turn the heat as high as it will go, close the door, and leave it like that for a couple of hours. Then open the door and you wlll see them if they are there. They will most likely be on the walls. (This is what you need to do every time you stay at a hotel before bringing anything into the room – you walk in, do this, walk out and go for a meal or something while you wait.) Check in the dresser drawers. If you do not see any in the dresser drawers, the infestation is not as bad as it might be. If you decide it is bed bugs you can treat them without the help of an exterminator but it is not easy. I can send you more information if you think it is bed bugs but in the meantime check here.

If you think it might be scabies it is more your body and bed clothes and personal linens and clothing that you need to disinfect and not so much the house and furniture. The following steps should be included in the treatment of scabies:
Apply a mite-killer like permethrin (Elimite). These creams are applied from the neck down, left on overnight, then washed off. This application is usually repeated in seven days. Permethrin is approved for use in people 2 months of age and older.
Antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), can be useful in helping provide relief from itching. Sometimes, a short course of topical or oral steroids is prescribed to help control the itching.
Wash linens and bedclothes in hot water. Because mites don’t live long away from the body, it is not necessary to dry clean the whole wardrobe, spray furniture and rugs, and so forth.
Treat sexual contacts or relevant family members (who either have either symptoms or have the kind of relationship that makes transmission likely).
