Honey Pine Finish

Staining Wood?

I got a piece of plywood that I want to stain in order to make it a little bit darker.
I heard this can be accomplished by either adding a lot of coats of a normal stain or just adding a few coats of a dark stain
I already added one coat of Minwax Stain and Polyurethane in 1 step Honey Pine Satin because it looked dark enough but it’s not when I put it on the wood.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on if I’m doing this right or which kind of stain to use in order to get a cherry/oak type of finish?

LOL at these answers..You have already applied a stain..and then a finish coat of polyurethane…Stain is a product that SOAKS into the grain of the wood and not a surface product..Using another stain without first stripping the already applied poly and stain..will do nothing but lay ontop of the poly itself and not stain anything..this will give you a more solid effect and not a stained effect…If it even adheres properly to start with due to mixing incompatable products with one another…This is not the answer you want to here..but you will have to strip it completely to make another stain “take” or soak into the grain..anything else you are simply laying it onto the surface and not soaking in as it is supposed to be.
