Inch Metal Bar

He left a big metal trampoline bar in the deep grass and it tore off my mower deck. Who is responsible?

I was mowing his yard. The grass was about 6-8 inches deep with a lot of weeds. I was being careful and all the sudden I hear a loud tick,tick click and a grind noise and realized I had ran over a bar off his trampoline laying in the deep grass. My mower deck is hanging too low and I had to call Sears for repairs. Who is responsible. The owner of the yard or me? He told me if I would mow his yard, he would mow my hill. Not a good deal now that I have to pay a repairman. Would his homeowners pay for my repair which I am sure will be costly? Who is responsible for this mess me or him and his yard full of trash?

If he assured you that there was nothing in the yard, the he would have shown some negligence.
However, Part of yard work is checking the yard for debris before using the mower. So you also showed negligence by not checking it yourself.
I know it sucks, but I do not think you would win a court case on this. Best thing to do is to ask if he will help you cover the cost of this accident. He may surprise you and do so with a smile.
