How to get rid of bad smell on leather shoes?

I have a pair of expensive Italian leather shoes that I simply love. Even though the shoes are in excellent condition, they have a bad feet smell to them, I am wondering if I can wash leather to get rid of the smell, otherwise what can I do?

sprinkle baking soda inside and let them air out on in the yard for 24-48 hours.
make sure you bring them in at night before it gets dewey.
after a few days just vacuum out the inside baking soda.
