How I can connect a bright LED to a lighswitch and a battery?

I was wondering how to take a 5-mm LED light with two small wires coming the bottom, and hook that up to the light switch with a 9 volt rectangular (can not remember the name or letter) of the battery. Do I need more cables? What kind? How could I do this? Thanks ..
