Loft Bed Desk

Can I put a desk on top of a loft bed?

I am thinking of buying a wooden loft bed, but instead of putting a bed on top, I would like to put a desk, computer and filing cabinets…in other words, convert it into a small office. Would this work?
Because underneath I would turn THAT into a closet. I have a small space to live it, but it has high ceilings. How would I know if the loft bed was sturdy enough? Is there anything I can do to reinforce it?

You could, if the loft was built strong enough…

BUT I can’t figure out why you wouldn’t do it the other way around — build your small office UNDER the lofted bed – your headroom would be the same (you could build a sturdy extension structure to raise it further), the weight of your desk and cabinets wouldn’t be an issue, and rolling your chair off the loft wouldn’t be an issue.

I, for one, wouldn’t want to sit or sleep under a desk and loaded file cabinets.
