Lovable Pig
my guinea pig is acting strangely?

I just got my guinea pig shy less than an hour ago but I’m worried about her, she doesn’t move like at all, i have to stick my hand in the cage to make sure she is alive.. i know i shouldn’t expect her to be all happy and lovable but when my friend got hers it at least moved to get water and food, shy hasn’t drank or ate anything at all…

it is completely normal. she will sit dead still because she is terrified. i am a mother to 4 beautiful guinea pigs and they did the same when i first got them. I suggest that you leave her alone in a dark quiet room for the night. She will start to eat and drink by herself once she realises she is safe. IT took mine a whole night to start moving around. lol
make sure she has a water dropper AND water bowl available incase she doesnt know how to drink from the dropper. Leave some carrots and lettuce infront of her, maybe with a bit of apple and tomato. They like those things.

The little girl should start to move around in the next 24 hours. Always make sure you are quiet around her at first until she gets used to you. Another thing – all my piglets rejected me for the first two weeks after i got them. I kept on trying to win them over, and it finally did work. So do not let it get to you.

Please get her treated for mites, just incase she has them. It makes a guinea pig unsoicable as it hurts for them to be handled. (they are too small to see, so you cant try picking them out)

I hope your cage does not have a wire bottom.. they are the absolute worst kind for a guinea pigs soft little feet. If so, please put down a towel or cardboard board for them to walk on.
