Oak is among the most popular choices for kitchens all over the U.S.  The naturally uneven patterns of its grains make up for its exquisite appeal making the wood seem ablaze.  This distinctive character makes oak an excellent choice for cabinets and furniture to complement casual, traditional, rustic or country designed homes.  Being common in North America where a different variety is offered for every region, the color selection ranges from red, yellow, white.  Each oak specie brandishes unique streaks of black green and other shades.  Oak is also porous, absorbing varnishes and stains well.  These wood treatments help bring out that exquisite look to oak by making the grain stand out.

Other than its stylish versatility, oak is a very durable and heavy choice for your kitchen ensuring that your choice of material can withstand the wear and use for generations.

The downside of oak, however, is that it fades in direct sunlight and darkens through time.  Depending on the taste of the homeowner, the darkening of wood might make their kitchen more or less appealing to them.

Maple Kitchens

When it comes to the most popular wood, maple contends with oak.  Maple boasts of a fine and even grain that makes the surface appear smooth-looking and even to touch.  Unlike, oak maple is limited to light and medium shades only from honey to cinnamon but works well with almost any finish from paints to transparent stains.  This type of timber looks great with a very wide variety of décor and can complement practically any kitchen design.  This flexibility is not only evident in look but functionality as well.  Being strong and durable, maple resists scratches and dents well and can be used for your kitchen countertops as well.

Maple also tends to fade with direct sunlight so be wary about areas in your kitchen that exposes cabinets and other maple furniture to sunlight to avoid mismatched wood tones.

Cherry Kitchens

As amorous as its name, cherry is well loved for kitchen cabinets for a good reason.  Cherry affords kitchens with its characteristic color that works best with finishes that brings attention to its warm luxury.  The timeless appeal of this timber—displaying a smooth with interesting patterned grains; work well with just about any kitchen design and setting from traditionally homey, to elegant, and to the sleek contemporary kitchens.

Like oak, cherry kitchen cabinets other wooden features will darken with age.  In case of any damages, replacing the affected part or area can be a tedious task—needing custom tinting to make the relatively new wood match the rest of the kitchen.
