Ideas For Cheap Bathroom Remodeling

What room in your home can be redecorated almost completely for little money? The answer is the bathroom and the reason is simple. All you need to do to achieve a totally new look is to buy new bath towels, bathsheets, hand towels, washcloths, a tub mat, rug set and a couple of sheets to make a new shower curtain, a matching curtain for the bathroom window and a wrap-around for the wastepaper basket. Toss in a couple gallons of paint for the walls to add the finishing touch.

While refurnishing the bath with new linens is the base for a new look, decorators say it is only the beginning. To achieve a professional look without exceeding the budget, follow some basic design guidelines.

Before buying anything, establish an overall theme for the room (contemporary, country, traditional) and take into consideration the size of the room, and its architectural pluses and minuses. If the room is small and dark, chose colors that are light to brighten up the room.

Make a shower curtain out of a full-size sheet using a vinyl curtain as a liner. Or, if you want to hide an ugly tub or do away with the cluttered look in your bathroom, create a bathroom divider with sheets hung from a tension rod placed close to the ceiling a few inches in front of the shower rod. If more than one sheet is needed, seam together at selvage.

The key to decorating is color coordination. Since the shower curtain is the largest item in the bathroom establishing color, begin by selecting a pattern for this, and picking up the established colors in your towels, Bath Mat and rug. For example, if your shower curtain is a blue and white stripe or floral, select blue and white towels, adding a color or red as the accent color.

Consider a reversible curtain for the window, with a print on one side, and a solid on the other. Or make a balloon curtain, using the same material and pattern as the shower curtain.

In one of the changes for the bathroom, give your children a turn. Witty animals prints are turning up in sheets and towels and can be used as a base for a bathroom for the kids.

Now to accessories. Once the colors have been established through the paint or wall coverings, the shower curtain, rugs and towels, build on this color theme by choosing soap, toilet paper and pictures for the room to enhance the colors.
