Can you help me get rid of an old mattress?

Okay, I have this really OLD queen-sized mattress. My old dog and I slept on it, and while he was sick he soiled it many times over. It’s been cleaned, but the stains remain. I’ve completely covered it with a zippered plastic mattress protector… But I still don’t feel right using it, even in a guest bedroom.

My garbage people do not dispose of old mattresses, and I feel weird donating it, as the stains are really rather disgusting. Do you know of any other ways to get rid of it, preferably ways that aren’t detrimental to the environment? Please answer if you do!
