Six Types of Glass for Sliding Doors
Sliding doors have become increasingly popular in modern homes and offices. This is because they are not only functional, able to divide spaces and give security, but they are also decorative, being made of glass.
There are several types of glass one can choose from when ordering these doors for homes or offices. The most elegant type is clear glass, which is ideal for spaces that need to be partitioned, but not necessarily shielded from view. A doorway leading into a garden is one example of such a space.
Another type is frosted, which is the most popular type of glass for sliding doors and is perfect for any function. Allowing light to enter but with minimal visibility, this type affords privacy without making the room dark, stuffy and claustrophobic. Objects more than six inches away from the glass will appear blurred and only bright colors will be easily seen.
There is a new type of glass, called linen, after the cloth material. Just like its namesake, it has a wonderful woven texture and provides privacy while still allowing colorful light to come through.
Laminated glass is another option for homes and offices. It is absolutely smooth on both sides, and is ideal as a room divider or for loft spaces, where each side of the door is equally favored in terms of viewing and utilization. It also provides the greatest amount of sound reduction, of all the types of glass.
More opaque options are the milky glass and mirrored glass, which are ideal for closets and storage enclosures that need to have the things behind them obscured from plain sight.
