what kind of education is needed for someone to get a job as a cook?

im 41 and love to cook .. I really love to be in a kitchen as a cook, wondering if I have to do the whole thing of culinary school or not?

If you want to be a cook and are willing to make wage cooking preparation, anyone will take more or less. It is one of the lowest, crappiest job in the kitchen. However, it is a big foot in the door. If you shows that it is knife skills and can follow directions, positions and chefs tend to open the line to help them in production. 1. Get your own knives. If you want to work on the cool side, you need much smaller knives. In the hot side, only 8 "Chefs and a 6" knife will be well. In the carnage, you need the knives above and a stiff boning knife (meat) and a flexible boning knife (fish). Get yourself a pair of surgical pliers if the place does fish. 2. Practice, practice, practice. While most kitchens use mandolins and other time-saving devices, you probably have to show competence before your preparation work is allowed on the line. Learn what the cut sizes are different and how to turn the potatoes and carrots. Now do it faster. 3. Take some classes. Most cooking schools will take your money for a basic class or two. If possible, take a knife skills course and a course of salsa. After you think you're ready, just go to a decent restaurant between lunch and dinner (usually between 2 and 4) and ask the chef. If he / she says there is no space available, ask if you know of a kitchen in need of a cook. In any case, Thank you for your time and move to another kitchen. It is very likely to find a place.
