How is it that my parents let me pull the fire alarm in a fire?

Once I was in a situation where my parents and saw the smoke. Were safe. How did my mom and dad asked me to pull the alarm against them? I was 12 and we were all near the alarm. How was that my father helped me pull the handle? It was what I wanted to make sure it would work? How did you asked me pull it instead of my brother, who also wanted? Was it because trust me more?
