What Are Platform And Storage Beds?

Platform beds or platform-like beds are ordinary beds that are made out of solid panels. These panels hold the mattress without the aid of any mattress foundation or box spring. Each of the beds has a different name and they take this name according to the use or shape. For example, when four posts hold a canopy over a platform-like bed, the platform-like bed is called as a canopy bed. The platform-like beds are called as storage beds when the platform-like beds have drawers for storage purposes.

Do you know the common aspect which is found in all the beds? Common aspect which is found in all the beds is the raised base. Characteristics of raised bases are rigid and plane. One of the beds type namely loft bed, is a bed which has extensive space beneath the frame, but does not have any draws. One can place chairs or tables underneath the loft bed. However these days one can find only shorter legs only in loft beds, resulting in lesser raised base. Thus they look very similar to platform beds. The storage cabinets of the platform beds or storage beds act a ground for insects such as bed bugs and micro-organisms to grow rapidly.

Most common insects which are harbored in the storage space are bed bugs. These bed bugs are resistant to most of the insecticides or pesticides available in the market. Thus if you have bought a storage or platform beds, then you should watch for these bed bugs. One should always take precautionary steps, if you feel that the pests have infiltrated the storage space. Do remember that insects and micro-organisms grow inorganically and rapidly. Thus one should not wait for the last moment, if you find the storage space being infected with the insects.

Better call the consultants or the experts, if you are bitten by a bed bug or see some bed bugs in the storage space. The experts namely pest control experts are well trained, highly skilled and equipped to terminate bed bugs and other insects. There is a possibility that the bed bugs might infect the storage space of the platform beds or storage beds even after the pest control is being done. Thus one needs to be more specific about the pests which have infected the storage or platform beds.

3. Are these pests active during the day or the night since these are not nocturnal?
4. Did you try any other pest control management to eliminate the growth of these pests?

Though the above mentioned queries are general and not specific; they help the pest control experts with inputs that they can work on. Do remember that the storage or platform beds need to be thoroughly cleaned regularly, to arrest the inorganic growth of the pests. One should always use the best mattresses available in the market for storage or platform beds. One has to remember in mind that there is a possibility that the mattress might also get affected by dust mites or bed bugs. One cannot see the insects with their naked eyes as they are very tiny. Thus one needs to acknowledge that the mattress will appear to be clean; but in reality it may not be the case.

Individuals who use metal bed frames, can be rest assured as they are insect proof. The insects or the bed bugs will not infest in a bed made out of metal frame. These metal bed frames have demerits also. When these metal frames cleaned, ensure that they are wiped dry else they might get rusted. Two important causes which affect the performances of beds and bed frames are dampness and water. When wooden bed frames are inundated with water, the portion of the bed frame inundated start swelling, thus the shape of the bed frames gets changed.

Although most bed frames manufacturers would tell you that metal bed frames are weather resistant and insect proof, there are chances that the metal can get rusted—especially with iron bed frames. If the metal used for the metal bed frame is aluminum, then there are no chances of rusting. However, aluminium is a lighter metal and may not give the required elegance.
