7 Steps to a Beautiful Entryway

You entryway is the first things that friends and family see when they come for a visit. Some visitors without even knowing it may judge you and your home in only a matter of seconds by what they experience. It will set the stage for the rest of your home decor. Because of these things, it is recommended to take the time and effort to decorate this important place to make that stunning first impression a lasting one.

1. Wall Interests

Add a decorative faux painted wall or wallpaper. If your foyer is right up next to the living room this faux paint or wallpaper will give it a separation of space between the two. You can have this done professionally or go to a class at your local home center to get instruction of how to do this. Look for the natural stopping point where the wallpaper or paint will end. Normally, there is an architectural change or molding that makes this clear. Another way to bring in a separation between the living room and entryway is the use of an open bookshelf. This will allow you to display interesting keepsakes, vases, or stack of books with leaving an open feel that translated between the two rooms.

2. Coordinate Color with Rest of House

Choose a color that works well with the rest of the house. This will draw people from one location to another without any abrupt changes in the feeling about the spaces. A color pallet that is just alittle different is what is needed most of the time A little known trick what interior designers use is to finish one wall with an accent color and the rest is finished like the rest of the home. Experiment with deeper tones on the door frame, trim or ceiling just for the entryway. This tells you where to stop one tone and where the next one starts as you enter into the living room.

Setting the correct tone for your home is important. The Entryway is the place in your home when people first come in and it that tells them a short story about who you are and how you live. You can showcase a favorite accent piece you found on vacation, art work, or hobby crafts that all reflect positively on you. Make a collage of family pictures, kids artwork, or antiques you collect.

4. Entry Mirrors are a Must

Hang a mirror for you and your guest. Normally you will look at the entryway wall every time you enter the space. Hanging a decorative mirror at a comfortable height so people can check their hair, makeup, as they enter or leave your house is helpful. The placement of mirrors can also make a small tight space seem more spacious, and opens up the room.

5. Functional Entryway

Design your entry wall to be usable. By placing a few coat hooks or shelves you have a place for guest coats and gloves when a closet is not close for them. If you do not have the space for the coat hooks place a coat rack or umbrella stand in a corner for this purpose. They are great looking, add interest and are affordable. If you choose to use a book shelf as a divider, place baskets on the shelves for storing keys, mail, and unsightly things.

6. Showcase Ceilings

When someone first walks into a home they take in the whole space that includes the ceiling. The ceiling is the most over looked area in a home. Showcase this element with your entryway wall. Paint a deeper tone of paint on the furthest wall. By doing that it will accentuate a high ceiling and make it more grand and will lead their eye to your dramatic chandelier. You must have a great light.

7. Good Entryway Design is in the Finish

Finish off your foyer with a console table. These tables are crafted to take up less overall space than traditional tables. Often consoles have a half round shape, with a gentle curve that flows around it, a couple of small drawers and often with a mirror above it. Put baskets on the consoles to help keep your entry tidy as they store mail, keys, or your cell phone.
