Chrysler 300 has white smoke from the tail pipe when started.?
Last Dec I bought a 2006 chrysler 300. Occassionally the air bag light will not go out or the seat belt light would not go off with the seat belt on and locked. More worrisome than that is the thick, white plume of smoke that comes out of the tail pipe when I start it up. Put the car in the shop in late Jan, spent over 500 bucks with only one good result…the seat belt light never came on again. Any ideas?
Thick white smoke is usually a sign of a blown head gasket, and water is getting into the cylinders.
It takes a good bit of water to create a thick white cloud, more than what would normally be created from condensation.
I’ve heard of test strips that will detect a leaking head gasket, but have never used them. Call around to some local parts stores and ask if they have them. Otherwise, take it to a shop and they can test it for a blown head gasket.
