Shelf Storage Desk

My daughter wants me to “Clean Sweep” her bedroom.I don’t know where to begin. An outline of steps would help

I am a “list” type person. I need step-by-step instructions, or at least a detailed outline) on how to tackle her room. Her personal hygine is great, but she is a slob when it comes to taking care of her room. I need to get her organized and purged in order that she can get a real handle on this problem. So. She has a single bed w/ 5-drawers for storage underneath. She barely uses these and continues to use a 4-drawer dresser. There is a built-in desk and shelves in one corner. She also has a nite stand w/drawer and a 2-drawer cabinet. We had hoped w/ the bed drawers and the desk/w bookcases above and a standing bookcase at end of desk she would no longer need a dresser which would free up a great deal of necessary space in her small room. Her closet is good-sized with 2 shelves upon the bar. All the “stuff” computer, tv, cd/vhs player, boombox/cd/tape player w/ detachable speakers, etc. a

Boxes… label one “donations/garage sale”, one “keep”, one “trash” and one “belongs elsewhere”.

Go through everything in her room and sort by boxes.

For the dresser issue, if she has a bed with drawers, then get rid of the dresser. If it isn’t in there, she can’t use it.

Once you have everything out of her room my suggestion is to get a piece of grid paper and plot out her room. Mark where windows are, outlets, closet, door, etc.

Then cut out scaled sizes of her furniture pieces. Move them around on the grid paper until you find a configuration that best utlizes her space.

The only boxes you should bring back in are her “keep” boxes. Then begin to organize. Look at what she has, and determine where it would be best utilized. Things like… her computer should be near/on her desk. If she listens to the radio while getting dressed, it should be near her closet or by the door so she can shut it off when she leaves.

Take a look at closet organizers. You can get them at target, walmart, lowes, home depot and some are under $100!

Oh and to really motivate her on the donation/garage sale box… tell her she can keep all/part of the $ from the sale. What isn’t sold take to a donation drop off.
