Shower Arm Chrome
Squealing Water Pipes?
I recently replaced my shower head and arm. I changed them from chrome to brass. Prior to that they never squealed, but now it drives me nuts. Now, the way the shower head attaches is different.
It doesn’t screw into the fitting behind the dryway. The water line extends 3-4 inches out of the wall, and an escutcheon is mounted on that pipe. The shower arm slips over the pipe and screws into the escutcheon, and the shower head onto the arm like normal. Since the arm is over the pipe, I assume the arm is filling with water, then going out the shower head.
Is this where the squeal is coming from and how do I get it to stop?
I also want to add that it’s a single knob control, I did not change the temp balance control valve. Also, it doesn’t squeal when the water is on full hot, but when you turn the slightest bit of cold on it happens.
Sqealing pipes is can be a sign of high water pressure. When you turned the water off to install the new shower valve, you may have turned the cold water on higher than it was before. Hope this helps.
