Tips bathtub faucet repair and Techniques
Did you know you can repair a leaking shower faucet and save hundreds of gallons of water a year? Most people only think of a dripping tap and an annoyance and not realize how much precious water is being wasted one drop at a time. The good news is that almost anyone with some basic tools can learn how to fix most dripping faucets.
Let's start with the basics. Faucets have one primary purpose, so that the water in the pipes to be used in a controlled manner. This means you have to open to allow water pipes and close to keep water in pipes. It is not rocket science, right? The final part is what I want to concentrate here.
There are two basic Designer Faucet

One way to know if your faucets use washers is to see if the handle is more difficult to turn as it off. If you really tight stops the drip, this probably, but not always, means that you have washers. If you have a leaky faucet that has washers, the process basic repair is very similar if you need to know how to repair a shower faucet, repair a leaky tub faucet or fix a leaky faucet sink. There are, However, an important difference.
Repair Bathtub Faucet
The only important thing to remember when setting a leaky bathtub faucet is that you must close the water for the entire house, before removing any other part of the exterior trim pieces. If you are not sure what pieces fit, turn the water supply first just in case. Once you have turned off the water main to the house you can start taking things apart. There are a lot of different trademarks and designs of faucets out there and all are separated a little different, so you have to kind of feel your way.
Elimination Court
The first step is to remove the handles. This is usually done by removing a cap to expose the handle screw, then remove screw. Then remove the handle. This may require a little finesse, and sometimes handles lock into place. One trick is to put the handles of a pair of locking pliers channel behind the valve handle, one on each side, and uniformly turn the handle to pull it loose. If this does not work you can buy a tool especially to remove the handles, but these tools are sometimes difficult to find and usually a little patience is all you have to do the trick.
After that he runs outside, there is usually some kind of manga on the mother. This usually has to go well. Again, there are many different configurations. A popular design uses threaded plastic pipe to connect the sleeve with the valve adjustment. Other guys have the threaded cap on the valve directly. You will contained this step before proceeding. Now to the root of the problem
Ok, so it has both handles and removed any remaining sleeve valve adjustment. Now you are ready to get to the root of the problem, the> valve stem. The machine is almost always at the other end of the valve stem of the handle. Usually the stem is placed in the valve body and only need to loosen for removal. Here's a tip. Glue the handle back in a second and open the valve through way. This relieves pressure on the stem and makes it easier to loosen.
Now just make sure it is correct by loosening the nut. Lots valves have a packing nut around the stem. In general, a bit smaller and opposite the real connection to the valve body. The purpose of the packing nut is to squeeze a bit of packing material especially around the trunk to prevent water from leaking around the stem when the valve is in use. Loosen the packing nut does not help, you need to get your key in the real connection to the valve body. Indeed, a deep socket is often the only tool who will work to remove the valve.
Remove the valve stem
The easiest way to ensure you have the right nut to see if there is a gap between the opening of the nut and valve body as you loosen the nut. The valve stem itself also usually go when you have the right. If you have loosened the packing nut by mistake, do not worry, you edit it before it finished anyway. Go ahead and remove stems much and keep up with what's what is important in many valves.
Once you place the stems should be able to find the washing "Interior" final. If chipped, broken or fragile is the likely cause of the leak. Even if it appears again, go ahead and replace it. We've come this far. You can get replacement washers on almost any hardware store. Sometimes you may want to replace the entire stem, especially if the end of the handle is removed. It is best to take only the mother with you to the store and see if they can match. Most stores do it yourself replacement for the stems of many popular brands. If the valve has a valve diversion from the center to change the water spout in the shower the same process applies. It is often easier to replace than to repair diverter stem. This really depends on the design of the mother.
How are your seats?
One more thing to check is the seats. These are the the valve body that the washer is pressed against stop the flow of water. If you can get your finger inside the valve, the feeling of the seats and see if feel rough. If so, it would be best to replace them if you can get. The interior of the seats, where the water flows through when the valve is open, usually have a square or hexagonal recess. special security keys are used to remove the seats. Put everything back together

The cartridge is usually held in place by a retaining nut on the valve body or in the case of most Moen valves for a clip. Simply remove the cartridge and put another in its place. If heat and cold are reversed When finished, turn the water back off, pull the cartridge back, give around 180 degrees and reinstall.
Delta Valves Style
One other common design is considered "WASHERS" Delta became famous and copied by several other manufacturers. It uses little "cup" seals that fit over the springs built into the back of the valve body. The press springs these "seals" against the cartridge and regulate the flow through small openings in the cartridge tapered. If you have one of these and is leaking, the change of these springs and seals usually correct it. Here's a tip. Once you have the cartridge to the side, insert a Phillips screwdriver into the seal and pop both the seal and spring out. Paste the new ones at the end of the screwdriver to help guide them in their place. This is especially useful if you do not have long, slender fingers.
Delta, and a few imitators, also have a faucet design that uses a ball instead of a cartridge. This is not so common in the bath or shower valves, but there are plenty of them out there. The springs and seals are the same but there are more rings and parts to be treated. The good news is that these parts are readily available. Although a bit more complicated to learn to repair a Moen kitchen faucet, a piece of cake, it's still easier to work with most of the washer type faucets.
These techniques also work in the kitchen
Armed with the knowledge that 've learned in this article that now not only knows how to repair a shower faucet and to repair a bathtub faucet leak, but you can apply these skills to many other faucets as well. After fixing a leaky bathtub faucet, leave a faucet dripping outside hose will be a breeze. The techniques to be used to complete a "WASHERS" repair bathtub faucet can be used in repairing newer style water faucets of all kinds.
