Do the positions of wires matter on a single pole light switch?
I have a single pole light switch with two screws. No indications of which one is which. I have one black and one red wire coming from the wall. Does matter which screw each wire connects to?
No – but, usually the (black, hot from the fuse panel), to top screw and load, (red, to the light), to bottom screw.
Many times – the wire from the fuse box will come up to the bottom of the box and the wire to the light will feed out the top of the box? There may or may not be any other wires. If there is a white – it is usually connected to another white and is the neutral – and – feeds through the box.
