What’s the best way to strip and refinish a hardwood deck? Looking for resources,…?

My deck is currently stained a very solid non-wood like color. It is very thick, almost like a paint. I have recently tried to take a power sprayer to it to strip it, but it doesn’t take the finish off too well. It imprints into the wood when I get the sprayer to a level where it can strip the deck, and it also takes the paint off literally only the width of the thin line of spray. Adjusting the spray to a wider adjustment does not strip the deck.

What kind of product is safe for removing finishes on decks?

Also, what steps should I take to complete the finish.

Should I be sanding the deck? How do I prep it for the finish?

I would like to stain the deck more of a wood color finish, so I can’t cover up what’s already there.

I won’t plug any particular paint store chain, of course, but whenever I need any advice regarding painting or refinishing something, I check with the folks at any reliable paint store, and follow their advice.

I had two friends, Sherwyn and William, and they worked at a paint store, and always gave me excellent advice on how to do whatever it was that I wanted to do.

Take your photos to a paint store with a reliable reputation, and hopefully, after they examine your photos carefully, they’ll be able to give you some sound advice, about what you need to do, to get the kind of look you are seeking.
