Steel Coffee Table

I need help fixing a problem with the finish on my wood coffee table. Pizza box cooked itself into the top.?

I’m a minister in New York City who let our college group use his office one evening. They unintentionally left me a little present! A box of fresh, hot pizza was placed directly on my wood coffee table, and when it was finally removed an hour later, paper from the box was cooked into the finish. (They left me no pizza, just its effects!) Liberal amounts of furniture polish loosened some but far from all of the paper, and areas from which paper came off are now a milky color. I seem to remember a steel wool remedy of some kind but don’t want to make things worse. Any advice is very welcome. Many thanks (and blessings)!

Probably Zero damage to the finish of the table.

Pizza simply wont heat to that extent with going thru the entire cardboard wrap and causing destruction of the finish. . What you have there is the wrapping of the pizza that has “glued itself down into the finish” of the table acting like an hot application of an adhesive.

Apply a liberal amount of mineral oil to the effected area. Then take a hair dryer to it and heat the oil with a back and forward motion of the dryer gun while working the oil around well until you’ve removed the entire adhesion of the cardboard.

Remember, this is like hot glue sticking to the finish, so heat it with the hair dryer is a must.

Dont apply furniture polish as that has a chemical in it and too much of that will cause a whitening of the finish. Above all, do not apply heat with furniture polish.

If the finish has whitened due to your prior attempts, leave it for a week or so and it should go away.
