Sunday Funnies Youth
Does he still like me?

I’ve known this guy since 5th grade and im now going into 9th. He’s in my church youth group but goes to a different school district. i see him about once a week. in 7th and 8th grade we flirted a bunch. ive liked him since about end of 6th grade. whenever hes around me he teases me for being blonde and kinda ditzy and he hates my friend but is nice to her when hes around me. on a retreat in january this past year he tackled anyone who was going to throw snow at me and he sat next to me a lot. he’s always so funny but then we can tlk about the most serious things too. in may my sunday school class went to chicago and this guy flirted with me the whole first night and i was tlkn to my friend who is also a guy. the guy i like would go and flirt with another girl all the time. i got so jealous and i couldnt tlk to him all summer. today he walkd into church and comes over by me and tlks. he was much quieter and stuff but a little different.the girl wasnt there tho. does he like me still?

Hey he’s just seeing what else is out there trust me he will come back to his senses and come back to you I mean look at all that flirting he’s doing for you!

The Someday Funnies

The Someday Funnies

$38.96

"The Someday Funnies "is the long-awaited collection of comic strips created in the early 1970s by world-famous artists and writers such as C. C. Beck, Rene Goscinny, Harvey Kurtzman, Jack Kirby, Moebius, Art Spiegelman, and Gahan Wilson. What started out as a special insert for "Rolling Stone "took on a life–and mythology–of its own as writer/editor Michel Choquette traveled the world, commissioning this visual chronicle of the 1960s, only to find himself without a publishing partner or the financial support to continue. Forty years later, readers finally get to experience this legendary anthology as Choquette celebrates the birth, death, and resurrection of "The Someday Funnies–"129 previously unpublished strips by 169 writers and artists. Praise for "The Someday Funnies: " "In 1970, National Lampoon contributor Choquette was asked by Jann Wenner to edit a special comics insert for Rolling Stone that would allow prominent cartoonists and writers to survey the 1960s. That collection, "The Someday Funnies," transformed over the next few years into a never-published book featuring the work of 169 writers and artists, and then–when Wenner pulled the plug–into the great lost project of comics history, a "Pet Sounds" of mainstream, underground, and European sensibilities existing only in Choquette’s Montreal storage space. Thirty-one years later, it’s finally seeing print and it’s a doozy, featuring work from luminaries like Art Spiegelman, Joost Swarte, Jack Kirby, and Will Eisner. There are also comics written by Harlan Ellison and William S. Burroughs, and illustrations from such unlikely suspects as Tom Wolfe and Federico Fellini. What sticks with a reader now is the way the ’60s had already begun to curdle in the memory even for those who had just lived them; more than one of these comics posits wild-eyed alternate histories of the ’60s, including the book’s kicker, a great Captain Marvel strip that ties the decade’s woes to Billy Batson’s mid-century silence. Though the collection is, by its nature, a mixed bag, it’s a priceless time capsule of comics history, presented handsomely by Abrams in the large tabloid size Choquette always envisioned." –"Publishers Weekly," starred review" A] treasure trove of sixties cartooning finally hits print. . . . This graphic time capsule reveals that "the sixties" still define modern America’s contradictory heart." –"Village Voice ""Where else can you see previously unpublished works by great artists like Kirby, Bode, and Beck, who have since passed on to that great bull pen in the sky?" –"Cleveland ""Plain Dealer" "As a portrait of the state of the medium of comics in the early 1970s in the U.S. and Europe, a yeasty blend of old and new that was poised to make a jump to the forefront of artistic endeavors in the twenty-first century, &quot

Short listed for the best First Book Award of the Africa Region Commonwealth Writer’s Prize, Isla Morley’s debut novel plays into one of our largest fears: what happens when a child is killed. Abbe Deighton has lost her bearings. Once a child of South Africa and now settled in Hawaii married to a minister, she is chafing against the expectations of her life, her husband’s congregation, her marriage and the constant demands of motherhood. But in an instant, beginning with the skid of tyres, Abbe’s life is transformed when her three-year-old daughter is killed, triggering a seismic grief that cuts a swathe through the landscape of her life. Clawing its way through the strata of grief comes the memory of another tragedy, one that has been tucked away for twenty years. If Abbe is to find a way through blame and guilt and find redemption she must confront the last summer of her youth. It is a journey that will take her back to the continent of her childhood bringing her face-to-face with her past, to the old witchdoctor’s hut where curses were cast, secrets kept and a crime concealed. Abbe will have to make the harshest of choices, choices which blur the lines of life and death, responsibility and forgiveness, murder and self-defence, in order to find her true homeland.

Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995

Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995

$3.94

"New York Times" best-seller Everyone misses "Calvin and Hobbes." It reinvented the newspaper comic strip at a time when many had all but buried the funnies as a vehicle for fresh, creative work. Then Bill Watterson came along and reminded a new generation of what older readers and comic strip aficionados knew: A well-written and beautifully drawn strip is an intricate, powerful form of communication. And with "Calvin and Hobbes," we had fun–just like readers of "Krazy Kat" and "Pogo" did. Opening the newspaper each day was an adventure. The heights of Watterson’s creative imagination took us places we had never been. We miss that. This book was published in conjunction with the first exhibition of original "Calvin and Hobbes" Sunday pages at The Ohio State University Cartoon Research Library. Although the work was created for reproduction, not for gallery display, was a pleasure to see the cartoonist’s carefully placed lines and exquisite brush strokes. In an attempt to share this experience with those who were unable to visit the exhibition, all of the original Sunday pages displayed are reproduced in color in this book so that every detail, such as sketch lines, corrections, and registration marks, are visible. On the opposite page the same comic strip is printed in full color. Because Watterson was unusually intentional and creative in his use of color, this juxtaposition provides "Calvin and Hobbes" readers the opportunity to consider the impact of color on its narrative and content. When I first contacted Bill Watterson about the possibility of exhibiting his original work, I used the term "retrospective." He replied that we might be able to do an exhibit, but that calling it a retrospective made him uncomfortable. He felt that a longer time was needed to put Calvin and Hobbes in the historical perspective implied by that term. Nonetheless, this show is a "look back" at the comic strip as we revisit favorites that we remember. "Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995" is particularly interesting because each work that is included was selected by Bill Watterson. His comments about the thirty-six Sunday pages he chose are part of this volume. In addition, he reflects on "Calvin and Hobbes" from the perspective of six years, and his essay provides insights into his life as a syndicated cartoonist. Reprint books of "Calvin and Hobbes" are nice to have, but the opportunity to see the original work and read Bill Watterson’s thoughts about it is a privilege. He generously shared not only the art, but also his time and his thoughts. When I first reviewed the works included in the exhibit, I knew that everyone who visited it would begin with laughter and end with tears. On behalf of all who enjoyed "Calvin and Hobbes," thank you, Bill Watterson. –Lucy Shelton Caswell, Professor and Curator The Ohio Stat
