How To Set Up Your Own Chicago Pool Table Room

One of the most popular gentleman sports in the Chicago area is the fine art of playing pool. The Chicago pool tables created back in the mid-1800s were legendary, and fans everywhere want to create their own Chicago pool table room for use by friends and family. This can be a challenging project, so we have some tips picked up by consumers and pool advocates over the years to make your endeavor as painless as possible.

 

The first thing to take into consideration when creating a Chicago pool table room in your home is space. Regulation Chicago pool tables will have a playing surface of around 9 feet long, and 4 ½ feet wide. This means that from the outside edges of the table, the amount of space this table will take up is around 10 feet by 5 feet. In order to have clearance all around for pool cues, you will need at least 5 feet available on every side and corner. This means that you will need an area to set up in of no less than 15 x 20.

 

The fundamentals of the game will not change much if you choose to go with a smaller Chicago pool table, of course. The only difference you may notice from playing on a regulation table in your local bar is that speed control of the cue ball, long shots and single rail bank shots might be a bit more challenging than before. If you are limited on space, you may need to go with one of the many smaller Chicago pool tables available today.

 

Be sure to mark out the dimensions of the room you are thinking of setting your pool table up in, and bring those dimensions along with you when shopping for a Chicago pool table. Any expert salesperson you speak to at any shop that regularly sells Chicago pool tables will need to know the amount of space you have available, because the table is not the only thing you will need to set things up the right way.

 

Most dealers offer packages on purchasing tables, so you may be able to get balls, cues and racks thrown in on the price for the table. But, to set up your area the right way, you are going to need more equipment than that. Most table packages will come with two cues, so if you are planning on having groups of friends over at any one time, you may need to purchase extra cues. To store pool cues properly and safely, you will also need a good storage rack to keep everything, including chalk in one handy area. You may want to think of decorative lighting options as well, to dress things up right.

 

Reputable dealers will also have used table options as well, and may even be convinced to throw in some necessary items on the deal. Just be sure to examine the felt, pockets and playing surface for prior damage before buying any used table.
