Tempered Glass
Tempered glass is required in the construction of an aquarium?
I'm looking to build an aquarium, I thought if I do it myself that I could save money. I'm looking to build about 200 gallon. In pet stores I've seen some aquariums. this size and would sell for about $ 900. I called the local glass companies and quotes received from 3 / 8 thick tempered glass and the glass is only about $ 1000. Does anyone have any suggestion or knowledge of building custom aquariums, where I could build my own for a fraction of the cost of buying a new one?
No not use containers glass of an aquarium, especially one so large. Tempered glass is much stronger than annealed (regular, non-tempered) glass, but it breaks. which is a major reasons for the manufacture of tempered glass. When ordinary glass breaks, it breaks into large fragments that can be strong and dangerous. with tempered glass breaks, usually makes some bizillion pieces that are relatively boring. this is very good for some things like glass doors and bathroom shelves. but imagine if this happens your water fish tank …. and freshwater fishes all over the floor in an instant.
