Murnaus 1927 film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans. Born in San Francisco, California, OBrien was the oldest son of Daniel J. and Margaret L. OBrien; OBriens father later became the Chief of Police for the City of San Francisco. After his retirement from that office, Dan was the Director of Penology for the State of California. The OBriens were crew members on board the sloop Unity, which captured HMS Margaretta at the entrance to Machias harbor on 12 June 1775.
