Do I need a special tool to remove the old towel bar?

I'm going to redo an old bathroom and I can not remove the towel bars years 20. They have small holes in them that are the size of a pen. Sticking a pen point LOSEN them no structure. No visible screws. OK Bert, the smallest allen wrench did! Thanks.

It is a hex head screw (also known as "Allen" screw). What you need is called an Allen wrench or a Phillips screwdriver. They come in a set at any hardware store and do not cost much. Bert
