Paper currency is available in one, two, five, 10, 20, 50 and 100 yuan notes, while Jiao notes come in the name of one, two and five. Fen notes are also available on the label of one and two, although they are rarely used. Coins have one yuan, one to five Jiao, and one, two and five fen.
The most luxurious, star hotels accept U.S. dollars, British pounds and euros. Tipping can also be done using the above-mentioned currencies. However, when buying from street vendors, convenience stores and department stores, as well as eating in local restaurants, payment should be made in local currency. Here are some helpful tips on money.
• Traveler’s checks: Banks and hotels in China accept traveler’s checks. Exchange rate is the same in both places. To change the checks to cash, you’ll need to show your passport. It is recommended that you exchange earnings. This allows you to exchange cash back to their original currency on your departure from China.
• Credit Cards: major credit cards are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diner is Card and JCB. You can use credit cards in shopping malls and shops, hotels and restaurants, as well as to purchase tickets. However, the card will not be much use when you travel to smaller cities and rural areas. You will have to pay in cash only RMB there. Similarly, some hotels also accept credit card payments. In this case, you have to go to Bank of China, where you can withdraw cash at a specified amount. Charges will be levied for the same.
• ATMs: Bank of China has many ATM outlets in all major cities. Five-star hotels also have ATM facilities. You can download only a certain amount from an ATM on a daily basis and the cash received will be in RMB. Your credit card will not work in them.
• Distinguishing counterfeit money: Identification of fake money can be easy if you know what to look for. Money can be distinguished according to the watermark, color, texture of paper and Braille dots. RMB notes is hard to copy because of their color.
Fake accounts are vague images, watermarks and colors are not very significant. They tend to be quite fuzzy. A good way to test if a bill is counterfeit is to look at it under a black light. Here are a few things to take note of:

The Americas $9.99 From food to the spread of political ideas, the landmass from northern Canada to the southern tip of Argentina is complexly bound together, yet these connections are generally ignored. In this groundbreaking and vividly rendered work, leading historian Felipe Fernández-Armesto tells, for the first time, the story of our hemisphere as a whole, showing why it is impossible to understand North, Central, and South America in isolation, and looking instead to the intricate and common forces that continue to shape the region. With his trademark erudition, imagination, and thematic breadth, Fernández-Armesto ranges over commerce, religion, agriculture, the environment, the slave trade, culture, and politics. He takes us from man’s arrival in North America to the Colonial and Independence periods, to the “American Century” and beyond. For most of human history, the south dominated the north: as Fernández-Armesto argues in his provocative conclusion, it might well again. A panoramic yet richly textured story that embodies fresh ways of looking at cross-cultural exchange, conflict, and interaction, The Americas demolishes our traditional ways of looking at the hemisphere, putting in place a compelling and fruitful new vision. From the Hardcover edition. |

NFL Americas Game Miami Dolphins $11.69 Rated: NASynopsis: Miami Dolphins of the early 1970s weren’t especially big, quick, or flashy, and they were soundly beaten by Dallas in Super Bowl VI, but they earned their place in history the following year, becoming the only team in National Football League history to go undefeated (17-0). The Dolphins’ “No Name Defense” of 1972 gave up the fewest points in the league, while the offense-playing most of the year without Pro Bowl quarterback Bob Griese-relied heavily on the ground game. Running backs Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris ran for over 1,000 yards each (an NFL first). Griese returned for the postseason and led Miami to a 14-7 victory over George Allen’s Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII, completing the Dolphins’ perfect season. It was a dilemma no other NFL team had ever faced: How do you improve on perfection? But head coach Don Shula believes that the 1973 Dolphins were even better than the team that went undefeated a year before. In Super Bowl VIII, the Dolphins pummeled the Minnesota Vikings for their second-straight world championship. Americas’ Game features exclusive interviews with Larry Csonka, Don Shula and Manny Fernandez (The 1972 Miami Dolphins) and Mercury Morris, Dick Anderson and Bob Kuechenberg (The 1973 Miami Dolphins). Join NFL Films as they recount the stories of the ’72 Dolphins’ run to 17-0 and the ’73 Dolphins’ success in defending their Super Bowl title. |
