Tropical Fish Bath
Experimenting on my Green Spotted Pufferfishes….?
I live in a tropical area (in asia)
Lately lots of my friends have been complaining about their GSP (they were given as presents by some idiot moron) and I have wanted to rescue them all.
I am the only one who will take them in – but I do not have anymore space.
HOWEVER… I live right next to the ocean. Is it possible to build a spacious bath-tub-tank next to the ocean… with netted wiring to keep the fish in…. thus giving them the right salinity and environment whereas controlling them in a safer environment?
I plan to add a roof to protect them from other birds/animals/etc… I will also feed them fresh live food and insects.
Netted wiring would corrode in saltwater. There are usually codes against building permanent structures on beaches other than docks, landings etc.
You might have to build a dock with a shelter on it to be legal. However if GSP are not native to your stretch of the woods, it would not be legal or ethical to place them where accident or wearing out of a structure would release these fish into open waters. You would have to build something more substantial than a bathtub/tank and even a tub size tank could end up costing more than a conventional aquarium. Add to the Florida room if you have one. My brother-in-law moved all of his aquariums out to the Florida room and the fish have done fine there. Plenty of room for more tanks, or more space could be added to a Florida room economically.
