Upholstered Headboard Bed

how can i change a metal bed to an upholstered bed?

i have a gold metal headboard and footboard bed and i dont have enough money to go out and buy a new bed so does anyone have any ideas on how to switch it to upholstered.

Is it a solid metal headboard and footboard…ie: one big piece? Or is it spindles? If the first, you could pad it, but you’d have to tack it down with glue, and I don’t know how handy you are with this stuff, so not sure how good it would look…then simply upholster over it. But again, you would have to tack it down with glue. If it’s a spindle bed…I don’t think there is any way to do that without looking horrible. I think your best bet is to start fresh. Get yourself a bed frame (to hold the box spring and matteress) very cheap at many furniture stores…like under $50.00…then go to the lumber yard, and have them cut a piece of plywood for you the size of your headboard needs. Easier to pad and upholster a sheet of wood then metal. You can tack on the padding and upholstery with an upholstery gun. Then attach the headboard directly to the wall and float the bed in front of it.

FYI – If you are sick of the metal bed….why not spray paint it a fun new color? Or adhere some fun wallpaper to it with mod-podge, then shellac over it? Have a large bolster pillow made in a funky coordinating fabric that will soften up the look and make it seem like a custom piece.
