Veneer Table Top

how to remove veneer off a table?

I had put a tarp over this beautiful table when i laid a waterslide down, and i guess the moisture condensed, whatever, but now the veneer is bubbled and I need to take it off and either put a top on, or see whats under it. How do i do this? I had bought this table via craigslist, so it is used, but the bottom (feet) are gorgous and the rest of the table is excellent condition!

The veneer will peel off fairly easily. Use a 5 inch putty knife. As far as whats under the table, it is most likely plywood, poplar, or birch, none of which will be usable as a top. You can get replacement veneer from a lumber dealer.

Can’t we play nice…..well then…If broomhilda, or whatever his name is, is a furniture maker…I’m Sam Ash (Right-he has no idea who that is) Without knowing the age of your table, my method is the best. It it is an antique, it is most likely veneered with hide glue, which heat will reactivate. If it has been reglued recently, it may have been done with an adhesive that will release toxic VOCs in the presence of enough heat.
