Who were the Canadian contacts of the Purple Gang?
We have a family story about a great uncle who was involved in some mafia activity. Since we’re Jewish, our family immigrated from Europe to Canada, the uncle was supposed to have been involvred in this shady activity “out east,” and the Purple Gang was a primarily Jewish gang located in Detroit which is twin cities with Windsor, Ontario, and since we know that one of their main rackets was to smuggle booze into the US from Canada, I suspect that this uncle may well have been involved in some capacity with this gang on the Canadian side of the border. I’d therefore like to know if there is any record of who the people were in Canada supplying the liquor to the Purple Gang.
